Before renewal, verify the notice deadline, end date, account and meter list, renewal mechanism, pricing structure, pass-through provisions, volume rules, termination language, and any planned changes to facilities or usage.
Build the timeline first
The contract end date and the deadline for notice may be different. Read the renewal and termination provisions early enough to evaluate alternatives without allowing the calendar to make the decision.
- Contract expiration date
- Notice and auto-renewal window
- Internal approval timeline
- Expected supplier enrollment timeline
Confirm the commercial terms
A comparison should cover more than a quoted energy rate. Review the pricing formula, product type, term, taxes, pass-throughs, volume tolerances, credit requirements, and early termination provisions.
Update the operational picture
New sites, closures, equipment changes, altered production schedules, and sustainability commitments may make last term's structure a poor fit for the next term.
